Bio

Heavily influenced by the British invasion and American folk, roots and pop music of the time, John Greenaway began a musical journey that continues today. After playing the oboe for two years, John picked up the guitar at age 13 and hasn’t put it down since. Playing in various local bands over the next few years, he became the guitarist for a large New Jersey chapter of “Up With People”. Touring the tri-state area with the group allowed John to experience playing for large crowds and developing stage presence. During this period, John met current songwriting partner Garry Herzog.  Together they have collaborated on over 100 songs to date.

Embarking on a musical career in the 1970’s, John was involved with a number of original musical projects and performing bands, most notably “Kinderhook Creek”, arguably the most popular New Jersey band to date in the tri-state area.  Due to it’s great following, the band was continuously invited to perform with such famous acts as Poco, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Roger McGuinn (Byrds), Outlaws, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Pure Prairie League, to name a few.  John joined up with “Kinderhook” once again in 2010, when the band reunited to perform with The New Riders, and then went on to play “The Stone Pony” in Asbury Park, among other venues.

In the early 1990’s John formed “Mimosa Music”, a musical services company encompassing audio productions, instruction and performance.  During that period he supplied original music for AT&T corporate videos, and was contracted by the Martin Guitar Company to teach guitar to their employees as the in-house instructor.

Starting in 2004, John composed original music for Disney/ESPN on a number of TV broadcasts including “The 25 Worst Teams in Sports”, “Monster Sharks Tournament”, and the ongoing series “Timeless”.   Today John continues to compose, record, instruct, and perform.
